Life is full of before and afters. I’ve learned that more and more over the last year and a half. Each person has defining moments in their life that left them different than they were before.
Your before and afters may look different than the next persons, but each unique experience is the opportunity for God to shape you into who He wants you to be.
Are you who you were before you finished school?
Are you who you were before you met your significant other?
Are you who you were before you had children?
Are you who you were before they told you, you couldn’t have children?
Are you who you were before you lost a child?
Are you who you were before the adoption?
Are you who you were before the deployment?
Are you who you were before the accident?
Are you who you were before the weight loss?
Are you who you were before the addiction?
Are you who you were before the affair or divorce?
Are you who you were before the diagnosis?
Are you who you were before your trust was broken?
Are you who you were before they died?
Chances are, you have been changed by something significant in your life. Sometimes the change has made you a better person, a stronger person, an encouraging person but sometimes it leaves you wondering if you’ll ever be “you” again. Sometimes your after, leaves you with an entirely new perspective and sometimes it leaves you wondering what life will be like now.
I’m smack dab in the middle of my “after”. I’m sure there will come a time that this season of my life will also be a “before”, but right now I’m at the after part of two huge times (and many small ones) that have shaped me into a different woman.
Sunday makes three years, since one of my defining moments. December 27th was when I had my sledding accident. That day and the months that followed changed how I looked at life and how I saw the Lord. I’m sure there are times that people get tired of hearing about my accident, but it was a very significant event for me, and for my family. Even in the darkest times following my accident, God was there. He showed how He would take care of me and my family in the most incredible ways during this passed year. Truthfully I will never be who I was before and I’m finally at a place where I’m OK, and thankful for that.
Life is full of before and afters but it’s what we do with the after, and how we allow God to use it (even if it’s painful) that makes life the beautiful life it can be.
This week we celebrate another before and after. This week we remember the birth of Jesus; God in the flesh, and His coming to earth as our savior. The world will never ever be the same as it was before He came as an atonement for our sins.
Who were you before you met Jesus?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”John 3:16-17 NKJV
“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.””Matthew 1:21 NKJV
“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.””Romans 10:9-13 NKJV
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”II Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
If you haven’t given Jesus the chance to come into your heart, and change your life, I ask that you invite Him in right now.
