So many times I go through my days without even a consideration that everywhere I go I have the opportunity to be a light and to share the gospel. I catch myself thinking that those who are called to the mission field are those who go to Africa to build schools and feed the hungry…they go to be a loving presence to tribes of people who have never heard the name Jesus…they learn new languages and live in a place away from the home they grew up in.
Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit”
It all seemed like such a great calling…to be one of those people who can be sent out and moves with the presence of God in those around you. To share with others about the amazing God that loves beyond measure, that provides and sustains everything we see around us. The opportunity to worship and praise a good good Father. The chance to feed, teach and love on those who otherwise would not know Him through you. To fulfill the great commission—what an incredibly gallant calling!
Isaiah 6:8 “Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
So it seems out of the norm (and different if only in my mind) to say that I have a mission field—but I do. I have an opportunity given to me by my Lord, to share the Gospel, today. Not down the road or later or in a faraway and exotic country. Here. Today. Now. The moment that I opened my eyes this morning began my day involving Jesus’ challenge to spread the gospel. The choice to be brave and be the one who looks a little different…the one to draw others to me by my actions and words…to reach out and love on those God put on my heart and in my life. I get to decide today that as that deep part of me says, “send me” that I have a willingness to go where God leads me.
Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
It completely astounds me that even as I go throughout my day, God blesses me and many times others by giving me glimpses of His heart for me and those around me. His heart shows when I share a smile with someone, its present in the simple act of giving a helping hand without strings attached, it’s super apparent when I send or receive a text just to say, “I’m thinking about you.” When I get to just be the me that God created me to be are the moments I get to share the good news without even trying. It’s the giving out or sharing of that piece that is a core part of who I am in Christ. It’s His light that shines through the things I do and the things I share with others so that the radiance of who lives in me brings life to those around me.
Even though I know that this life is not my eternal home I still get to have a grand adventure with the God of the Universe! God has given me everything I need for this moment and he is preparing me today for what I need for tomorrow—how amazing is that?
The thought of it is awe inspiring!
