How Does A Moment Last Forever?

I just watched  Beauty and the Beast the live action version, and I was moved to tears. A certain song named How Does A Moment Last Forever? really struck my heart.  Why this song, you ask?  It is sung in several different key emotional moments of the movie – each time, stirring up a different emotion with the same element wrapped throughout – undying love. At first, it is that of a father’s love for his family, next, it is a daughter’s memory of her father’s love for his family –willing to sacrifice for the sake of the family. Before I get too deep into my thoughts, let me share the lyrics of the full song.
How does a moment last forever?
How can a story never die?
It is love we must hold onto.
Never easy, but we try.
Sometimes our happiness is captured.
Somehow, our time and place stands still.
Love lives inside our hearts and always will.
Minutes turn to hours, days to years then gone.
But when all else has been forgotten.
Still our song lives on.
Maybe some moments weren’t so perfect.
Maybe some memories not so sweet.
But we have to know some bad times.
Or our lives are incomplete.
Then when the shadows overtake us,
Just when we feel all hope is gone,
We’ll hear our song and know once more,
Our love lives on.
How does a moment last forever?
How does our happiness endure?
Through the darkest of our troubles,
Love is beauty, love is pure.
Love pays no mind to desolation.
It flows like a river through the soul.
Protects, persists, perseveres
And makes us whole.
Though this song was intended to be secular, I cannot help but sing it as an act of worship to my Lord and Savior in reflection of my own story of love and His pursuit of my wicked heart. The lyrics perfectly describe my testimony.

How does a moment last forever? How can a story never die? It is love we must hold onto.  Never easy, but we try
How does a moment last forever? How can a story never die? Let me tell you, friend! Let me tell you my story of holding onto love. My story of the love of this world being changed forever to the love of my Heavenly Father. So desperately I hung onto my childhood ideals of church, salvation, and freedom, only to be blinded by my own selfish pursuits and worldly desires. I tried, though, did I ever try, to hold on even though the world’s enticing hand grabbed hold of my mind and heart.
Sometimes our happiness is captured. Somehow, our time and place stands still. Love lives inside our hearts and always will.
I had rushed right into the world’s arms and sought solace in the warm embrace of a cold sin, carrying around my happiness in a bottle, my heart torn, my life a shadow and a sun. Yet, in an instant, in a moment of surrender, all of that changed. The world stood still, and I turned to my Heavenly Father for the first time in a long time, collapsed into His arms, the familiar embrace rushing over my weary body. There, love lived inside my heart – the Holy Spirit took residence within.
Minutes turn to hours, days to years then gone. But when all else has been forgotten. Still our song lives on.
While time continues and my flesh grows old, one thing remains – my spirit running wildly, a warrior woman praying, a worshiper praising.
Maybe some moments weren’t so perfect. Maybe some memories not so sweet. But we have to know some bad times. Or our lives are incomplete.
To think of the past, the time I spent apart from God, pursuing my own selfish desires, ultimately ending in defeat and abuse, heartache and tears, I weep at my flesh. These times, though, are what made me incomplete.
Then when the shadows overtake us, just when we feel all hope is gone, we’ll hear our song and know once more, our love lives on.
When I felt all was lost, when I couldn’t take another step, when darkness engulfed me in anger and pride, I heard, My child, I’m waiting…come to me, feel my side, let me love you deeply, heal those wounds.  It is then, I knew within my heart, that love, God’s love, would forever live within me.
How does a moment last forever? How does our happiness endure?  Through the darkest of our troubles, love is beauty, love is pure. Love pays no mind to desolation. It flows like a river through the soul; protects, persists, perseveres, and makes us whole.
So, how DOES a moment last forever? How DOES happiness endure through the darkness of troubles? Let me tell you, friend. I have the answer. Through all the pain and darkness I inflicted upon myself, I finally understood and embraced JESUS. Jesus is pure, a spotless lamb. Jesus paid no mind to how dirty and stained I had become in my choices to embrace the world. Jesus paid no mind to how sick the disease stricken lepers were, He just healed them, He just healed me. Jesus was a beautiful baby boy born on a glorious star studded night. Jesus committed no wrong, His entire life was perfect. Jesus is God’s Son – God’s flesh and blood born to this earth – the One he loves so deeply, just like He loves us.
He loves us so much we are made in His image and likeness. God promised that if we’d accept His only son Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, we, too, become His children. His blood flows like a river in our veins in the person of the Holy Spirit. He protects us from evil through Jesus’ name, He is persistent to pursue our hearts, He perseveres as we walk shakily, one step after the other, to the beat of our own drum only to fall back into His arms. And He is the ONLY person, the ONLY Savior. Who, by His blood shed on the cross, His death on that cross, and His resurrection three days later from that death, can make us whole. Complete in Him alone. Completely resting in His love.
I pray, friend, you find rest in that love.
Praying for you always,
Sarah O.
