Each of us have someone in the past, as well as in the present that have made an impact in our lives. Some have had (or are currently having) an impact in small ways, some in large ways. Some have impacted our lives in positive ways, and some in negative. Some have impacted our lives in ways we had never imagined, and some in ways we will never ever forget. Chances are that as you read this you’ve started mentally recalling a list of people who have previously and are currently impacting your life.
But what about you?
What about the impact you have in the lives of others?
When you realize that you have a sphere of influence yourself, and you are currently impacting others around you it is both a powerful, and sobering thought.
What would other folks say your impact has been in their life?
Would you be surprised? Proud? Embarrassed? Ashamed?
There may be some of us who would feel proud of the times where we made a positive difference in the lives of someone else. We might recall the times where we have given our all, in hopes it would make a difference. There may be people who would have your name on their list of those who have unfortunately left a negative impact in their lives. There’s a good chance you have impacted people in ways you have never imagined, and even made some impacts you will never know. The truth is, we all have a sphere of influence, we all make an impact.
A few years ago someone brought to my attention the sphere of influence I have and honestly, that thought made me so nervous. What happens in the moments I let them down? What happens in the moments I fail? What happens in the moments when my attitude is ugly, selfish, or ungrateful? What about the times I’m not at my best? Those are the times I don’t want anyone to even see, let alone be influenced by but what about the times where life was devastating and somehow I handled it with grace? What about the times that Gods presence was real and alive in my life? What about the times when people have seen Jesus in me, when I thought no one was even watching?
It’s kind of exciting to know that God uses even me, to draw people to Himself, and for His glory. It’s humbling to know that I have the potential of making a positive impact in someone else’s life, without even realizing it, but also makes me realize I have the potential of making a negative one as well.
But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”
There have been many times especially lately where I thought my efforts didn’t matter, that I wasn’t cut out for the job and that I was failing miserably at the tasks I was trusted with. I am so thankful that there have also been little glimpses here and there that have said “Don’t give up, you’re making an impact through Me.”
How are you preparing for impact?
Are you prayerfully looking for ways that you can be a positive influence in the life of someone else? Are you asking God to use you in ways that only He can? Are you taking the opportunity to ask Him to guide your path and asking for grace and forgiveness when you don’t get it quite right? I know that none of us are perfect, and that there will be plenty of times we fall short, but it is my prayer that you will see that you matter, you have an incredible sphere of influence, and you will use it for His glory every chance you get.
In His Love,
