Police Officers are dead.
Black lives matter.
A shooter ends fifty lives in Orlando.
Our nation has begun a terrifying self-destruct sequence. Everyone is looking for answers. Everyone else is the cause of our problems.
It is time to STOP POINTING FINGERS.
Stop pointing fingers at the police officers, the gang members, the drug dealers, the rich, the poor, the politicians, the government, the Muslims, the immigrants.
God has already given us a formula for healing our nation in 2 Chronicles 7:14. The problem is that this formula starts with US. You. Me. The church. That makes us uncomfortable. It forces us to deal with OUR sins. It is hard!
“If my people who are called by my name”
God is talking to those who claim to know Him. The rest of the world refers to us a Christians. THIS is who God is talking to. The healing of our nation does not depend on the criminal element reforming. It does not depend on elected politicians. It does not depend on non-Christians changing their ways.
It depends on US. Christians. Christ-followers. Disciples.
Humility is the opposite of pride. We Christians too often take pride in being right, in having the right answers, in living better than the rest. That pride chains us to mediocrity. It keeps us from falling on our knees before God and confessing that He alone has the answers.
How often do we fall on our faces before God…literally on the floor worshiping Him? How often do we pray through Scriptures to fight the battle against evil? How often does trivial entertainment win out over prayer time?
I am guilty. You are guilty. Our guilt is crippling the church.
“And seek my face”
How often do we actually dig into God’s Word? Are we just taking the pastor’s word for what God says? Shame on us!! The Word of God is alive. It is relevant to our lives today. In it, God reveals Himself to us.
We deny ourselves victorious living when we neglect the Bible. If we can’t be victorious over personal sin, how on earth can we help our nation?
“And turn from their wicked ways”
Remember, God is talking to US…not the criminal element or the politicians. The church is full of wicked ways: pride, condemnation, unbelief, selfishness, gluttony, laziness, complacency, covering up abuse, feelings of superiority. It is time for us to repent and turn from our sins. We need to ask God to shine His light into our hearts and reveal to us where we are stuck in wickedness.
How can we be God’s light in a dark world when we remain chained to hidden sin??
“Then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” –2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
