As a woman of God, does this word cause a stirring to your soul? Does it bring tingles to your arms? A smile to your lips? Peace to your heart?
“There is power in the name of Jesus.”
We’ve all heard that phrase before, probably multiple times.
But do we really get it?
When I was a child, I heard a minister talk about the power of speaking Jesus’ name out loud, and he said something that made the hair on my neck stand tall. Now more than twenty years later, I haven’t been able to get those words out of my head:
“When you say the name of Jesus, you say a mouthful. Because at the sound of that name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is LORD!”
Kinda puts current struggles into perspective when you really meditate on it. Whatever tough situation I’m going through seems to melt away when I think about the greatness of my God and the son He sacrificed to save me.
And the Bible says ‘every’.
That rude person who cut in front of me on the highway. That ungrateful customer who argued with me on the phone. The clerk who tried to over-charge me. That unsaved family member who refuses to accept my faith. That spouse or child who doesn’t seem to appreciate me. That friend who betrayed me. That neighbor who accused me of something I didn’t do. That “sister” who doesn’t think I measure up as a Christian.
And what about all the evil in the world? The Satanists and those who follow false religions? Politicians and greedy business owners? Thieves and murderers? Strippers and pedophiles?
Can you picture them on their knees, humbled before a holy, sovereign God?
All of us are equal in God’s eyes.
All of us will bow.
All of us will confess.
No matter what happens in this world, Jesus Christ will always be LORD.
“… at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11 (NIV)
