“There is something poignant and meaningful about upcycling an abandoned planter with its well-earned patina while considering how the lines life has etched on us actually make us more appealing.” -Sandra Byrd
I met Sandra at a writers’ conference in 2010 for the Christian Writers’ Guild.
I was trying do decide which classes to take, and overheard several ladies discussing how sweet Sandra was, and how much they had learned in her teaching sessions. So, even though I had never heard of her, I went to one of her classes.
Soon I discovered she was a bestselling author of novels for pre-teen girls. Over the next couple years, my daughter read pretty much everything Sandra had written! She also has a some award-winning historical fiction stories for women, which I read for myself.
Over time, Sandra has become a great resource for me, because she is also a writing coach. She has now read through five of my novels (two of which were published).
I was thrilled when she reached out to me a few months ago to tell me of her new non-fiction work, a book of devotions for women! (She also wrote a devotion book for girls.)
About the book: “The One Year Home and Garden Devotions offers an encouraging, applicable, sometimes humorous, and always personal word each day for contemporary women of all ages who delight in enhancing their home in diverse ways. Written in first person, the devotional is transparent in its personal life lessons that will encourage women to see the beauty in themselves and the world around them.“
Looking for a book that will boost your faith and inspire your heart? One written by a woman you can relate to? Sandra is quite transparent about her personal life. Each month opens with a creative activity, such as a recipe for beef strogonoff or tips for homemade planters. Each day ends with a scripture for meditation.
From parenting, remodeling, gardening, and more, she covers all sorts of areas that real women deal with every day.
Topics covered include lessons she learned from different types of :
Foods, from eggs, to raspberries, to cake – especially cake!
Animals, from dogs, to cats, to birds, to deer, to rabbits, to rats…
Flowers, from dandelions and daffodils to lilacs and the Yellow Rose of Texas.
Appliances, including the water heater, the chocolate fountain, and the washing machine.
Landscape, such as soil, lawns, vines, garden benches and dry riverbeds.
Home Decor, such as mirrors, wallpaper and the invaluable armoire.
And other day-to-day items, such as table manners, written lists, toilet paper, spring cleaning,
heavy purses, light bulbs and so much more!
AND . . . We are giving a copy away!
